It’s not just flowers and celebration, it’s remembering those who carried families, cultures, languages, and responsibilities that People see “close family” and think they understand it.

But growing up in a Pacific Islander family comes with layers that aren’t always visible from the outside. The expectations, the responsibility, the way decisions are made&hel

This gathering was built with intention—for women seeking friendship, belonging, and community care alongside others who understand the Being Pasifika taught me how to show up—with food, with service, with presence, with love that moves through action.

It’s May, so let’s talk AANHPI month first. When people shorten this acronhym and only say “AAPI” people of the Pacific (NHPI) often get pushed to the side, our stories, our struggles, our healing needs.

I see it all the time For so many of us, especially in Pasifika cultures, we’re taught to build our lives around everyone else. Family comes first. Community comes first. And you learn how to be available, dependable, and present no matter what.

When therapy doesn’t feel accessible, people don’t just ignore what they’re going through. They find other ways to cope.

They scroll for hours.

They vent to friends.

They stay busy.

They travel, move, or look for a fresh start.

Keeping the peace, respecting elders, and protecting relationships were often emphasized growing up. Those values can be deeply meaningful in our communities, Success is supposed to feel good… so why does it feel so complicated?
